Bank Account Verification


Using Credas, you are able to verify UK bank accounts manually. This check allows you to verify that the bank account is real, and that it belongs to the individual in question. 

How do you run a bank account check? 

To run a bank account check, go into the individuals profile on Credas, and you will see a bank account check appear within 'available checks', as can be seen below. This will allow you to enter the details and run the manual bank account check on the individual. The results will then appear on the individuals profile.

What bank accounts can Credas verify? 

The bank account check can verify traditional bank accounts within the UK such as HSBC and Nationwide. Due to challenger banks (i.e. Monzo and Revolt) being digital and not having branches, we are unable to verify these banks accounts. The full list of bank accounts that can be verified can be accessed here.

Bank account results

The bank account results will be presented to you as either a pass (green) which means we have been able to confirm the bank account is real and belongs to the individual, or refer (amber) if we have been unable to verify the bank account. In these situations, we recommend referring to your internal policies on what you should do next.

The results will be split into the two below sections:

  • UK Bank Account Validation Database check - Performs authentication of bank account number and sort code information against live sort code database and bank account algorithms. Therefore this check is confirming if their are records that the bank account is a real bank account.
  • UK Bank Account Verification Database check - Performs authentication against first, last name, address, sort code and bank account number (plus indicators of account status). Therefore this check is confirming if the individual in question is the bank account holder.
